Why is a current Immunization Record necessary to attend camp?
The State of Texas requires that we have current immunization records for all children attending.  Any application submitted without an immunization record will be considered incomplete.

Who can attend Camp of the Rising Sun?

Any child who is currently involved with Special Education in any school district located in Navarro and Freestone Counties.  Students must be eligible for Special Education Services according to TEA regulations.  Special Education teachers will be notifying parents of their child's camp opportunity and will be sending home information with the students.

What dates will camp be held in 2017?
The dates for Summer Camp are July 3-7 at Camp Wanica. Camp Wanica located at 5400 FM 637 Corsicana, Texas  75109.   All campers between the ages of 5 - 16 may attend this week.

What are the hours of camp?
 Monday through Thursday, the camp will meet from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm.  On Friday, we will meet from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm.

Why does camp end early on Fridays?
We will be having a parent/camper/counselor lunch on Friday of each camp.  Therefore, the campers will be able to leave with their parents after Friday lunch.

How do I apply for my child to attend camp? 
Special Education teachers will be sending applications home with the students eligible to attend.  If your child is eligible but you do not have an application, one can be downloaded from the Camp Forms section.

When are the Camper Applications due?
Camper application is due by June 1, 2017.  Please return the application to the following address:

Are you accepting applications for camp staff?
We accept applications for numerous positions at each camp all year! 
Paid Staff Applications:  All persons applying for a paid staff position will be required to attend a Sexual Abuse Training course.  Applications are available on the Camp Forms page.

Volunteer and Counselor in Training Applications:  We are always in need of volunteers for our camp activities.   All Staff and Volunteers who are age 18 and older will be subject to a background check. 

What types of activities will be available at each camp?
There will be numerous activities.  Some of those that will be offered are arts & crafts, swimming, games, nature activities and sports.  We also will have special guests and activities at each week of camp.
